Frontlist | UP Cebu student-writer receives international recognition for storyon Feb 15, 2021 A RESIDENT of Cebu City and student of the University of the Philippines Cebu, Christian Andrei Nuez Laplap, was one of the awardees chosen under the Editors’ Choice category in the 2020 Hammond House International Literary Prize awarded by the University Centre Grimsby in the United Kingdom. Laplap’s short story, “The Oddity that is Them,” will be published in the literary prize’s annual anthology of short stories and will soon be celebrated at its Annual Literary Festival in February 2021. As the literary festival is likely to be postponed, the list of winners will be presented in a special televised awards program via video links to be broadcast on Billboard TV. Now in its fifth year, the contest sponsored by the University Centre Grimsby attracts entries from 27 different countries with this year’s theme, survival, in the forefront as it inspires writers to interpret the theme as they wish. Laplap was also an Awardee of Excellence in the World Youth Essay Competition (WYEC) 2018 among the several thousand essays sent from all around the world. The WYEC gives opportunities for individuals to write topics freely whether it be aspects of society, environmental issues, science and technology, global affairs and more.
